The Songs Tell the Story
While Kevin O’Brian, the Hooker, Frankie and the other characters
of the play interact, Arthur Godfrey sings the 13 original songs that tell
their stories from his place on the stage.
These are gritty, hard-hitting songs about pasts that have left the characters
scarred and saddened. They are
also
songs
of
promise
and hope, as Kevin and the Hooker see in one another the possibility for a future they hadn’t imagined. All songs in MP3 format.
East Side of Town opens the play. It’s a song about the tough streets of
Kevin’s childhood and the night Kevin saw his brother Eddie die.
It’s
All Part of the Story — a song about
the betrayal and brutal abuse Kevin experienced as a child.
Just
Kiss Me Baby is sensual and raw and strikes the right chord as Kevin
and
the
Hooker first explore
their
feelings for one another.
Your
Dreams is the first time the Hooker reveals she cares deeply
about Kevin.
You’re
Always at Your Best When You’re
All Alone. Kevin sees his ex-wife across the dance floor at his
daughter’s
wedding. All the old feelings of disappointment return.
Amen,
a song about staying true to family, plays while Kevin and the Hooker sit
together
on Kevin’s
bed. At that moment, they’ve never been happier. But it’s not
the happy ending they’re
both hoping for.
